Mustang Hero Car NFSOn its 50th birthday, the 2015 Ford Mustang is casted as the hero car for the upcoming DreamWorks Studios and Electronic Arts film “Need for Speed” with its sassy attitude and bold, new look. Special reflective Kona Blue stripes accent the bright custom silver paint job designers gave this special Mustang that audiences will get a chance to see in action when the film is released in March 2014.

Mustang has thrilled audiences for many years in feature films and television shows, but the car driven by the film’s star, Aaron Paul (“Breaking Bad”), will be something new to dream about. The special design is in keeping with the inspiration for “Need for Speed,” which is based on the long-running series of driving video games of the same name from Electronic Arts, but with input from the movie’s director, Scott Waugh (“Act of Valor”).

Filmmakers and Ford designers worked together to create an incarnation of Mustang that would be a departure from what audiences are familiar with and would thrill movie-goers. The final decision was to create a Mustang that didn’t stray too far from its iconic and beloved DNA, but it would have a one-of-a-kind look specific for this role. “The result was a one-off Mustang that retains its rich history, great styling cues and sexiness, but has a more sinister, anti-hero look in the face. It’s a Mustang that has a code of justice, but plays by its own rules,” said Executive Director Moray Callum of Americas Design of Ford Motor Company.

“Need for Speed” marks an exciting return to the great car culture films of the 1960s and ’70s, tapping into what makes the American open road so appealing. The story chronicles a near-impossible cross-country journey for our heroes – one that begins as a mission for revenge but proves to be a journey of redemption. The movie is based on Electronic Arts’ popular video game series of the same name — one of the most successful racing video game franchises in the world with more than 140 million games sold.

Last year, DreamWorks and Ford announced an exclusive partnership for the feature film “Need for Speed,” which will include significant integration of Ford products, along with extensive media promotion by Ford at the time of the film’s release on March 14, 2014. In addition to hero Mustang, Ford also provided an F-450 truck known in the film as “The Beast” as well as another specially designed Mustang production vehicle, which allows filmmakers to capture car racing action in new and exciting ways.
